Here is a 10 minute clip from a fine documentary on Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, filmed before his election to the papacy.

Awesome.
Although, it’s a bit misleading to say Cardinal Ratzinger “was behind” the controversial teachings of Pope John Paul II such as contraception, priestly celibacy, and women’s ordination. At least regarding sexual ethics, John Paul II, as Karol Wojtyla, had his philosophy laid out long before he before he was elected to the papacy. Most notably, his book titled Love and Responsibility is proof of this. He was even instrumental in the writing of Humanae Vitae, even if the encyclical “was not crafted precisely as Wojtyla proposed”. (Weigel Witness to Hope 2005, pg. 207)
Very cool video! I never knew he was Germany’s dogmatic/systematic theologian.
